On Monday 18th February 2002 we were visited by Mark Haynes, M0DXR. Mark gave a presentation to the club about the record-breaking D68C (Comoros) DXpedition which took place in February 2001. This was organised by the Five Stars DXers Association.

Mark is a previous winner of the RSGB/RA Young Amateur of the Year award, and was also one of the operators of M2000A, on the air for the millennium celebrations. It was here that Mark’s operating skills were noticed and he was invited to be a member of the D68C team. He was 17 at the time and was the youngest member of the group.

Mark’s presentation consisted of two parts, with a short break in between. Firstly we watched a slide show, with Mark describing the objectives, the planning and the results of the DXpedition. After the break we watched a video, filmed by Mark himself during the trip.

D68C broke most DXpedition records and set many more, making over 168,000 QSO’s. Mark concluded by telling us about the DXpedition that he was organising to the Maldives.
